Water disruption at Block H from 7th Floor downwards

There’s a notice on the public notice board by the lift on Block H saying there’s water disruption due to burst pipes on a certain floor affecting floors from 7th Floor downwards.  The funny thing is, it seems to affect only 2 houses on each of all those floors.

Arriving at the floor in question, I saw a couple of PAMA Services technicians taking a break after working on something.

I ask them what happened?  They showed me, the water metre that was previously clamped by having it’s lock device stay permanently switched off but was somehow tampered and broke the adjoining pipes. This forced them to remove the whole water metre pipe joining and stuff the broken pipeline in order to temporarily ensure the water can go through.  Since the valve switch was located at 7th floor, they had switch it off there.  Imagine! 7 floors affected and all because someone broke the pipe on the lower floors.

Those on the higher floors are lucky!  Imagine, if this happens on the higher floors?

Anyway, I asked the PAMA Technicians on when they can have it fixed permanently? Tomorrow the soonest when they get the necessary required parts.  Then, they’ll have to get the 7th floor valved switched off for a few hours to effect repairs.

Really!

I can understand that. As an amateur plumber myself (fixing the kitchen pipes), I know that joining the pipes is quite easy, but for the pipe-glue to really take effect, it has to be left to dry for a few hours.  Well, that’s what I was told when I did my kicthen pipes few months back.

What I cannot understand is that, a selfish action (a failed one at that) caused unnecessary disruption in the lives of at least 13 other households!  Pity those law abiding neighbours.
